Tell Protn your macro targets and the foods you actually eat. It builds a week of meals from those foods that hits your targets — and from then on the only job is ticking them off.
Your first plan is free — no trial, no card. After that, 14 days free, then $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year.
The premise
You already know roughly what you should eat. What wears you down is answering the question three times a day, every day, while hungry — and then logging it afterwards to find out whether you got it right.
Protn removes the question instead of making it easier to record. The menu is settled once, in advance, from food you already like. Breakfast on a Tuesday is not a decision any more.
Why we stopped building a food loggerBreakfast
Lunch · chicken day
Plain whole foods, in units you can count or weigh. Meat raw, rice cooked — because that is when you actually put it on the scale.
How it works
Calories, protein, carbs and fat. Enter them, or let Protn work them out from your height, weight, age, sex and how much you move.
The things you could eat on repeat for weeks. Proteins, carbs, vegetables, fats — plus anything you will not eat.
Which meals you want in a day, and whether Protn should track water alongside them.
About seventy seconds later, a week of meals built from your foods, landing on your targets. Yours to keep and read for free.
Because the menu is being written, then checked. Protn verifies every meal uses only your foods and has the right shape, snaps each portion to an amount you can actually measure, and then checks the day’s totals against your targets.
If it lands outside tolerance it is repaired and checked again — and if it still cannot land, Protn tells you which food is the problem rather than saving a plan that is wrong.
One protein, one carbohydrate, one vegetable, one fat. No recipes, no ingredient lists twelve items long, nothing you have to shop specially for.
The daily part
Open the app, see today, tick what you have eaten. Your macros fill in as you go. That is the whole interaction.
Every meal and every glass of water, checked off as you go. Nothing to type, nothing to look up, nothing to estimate.
Protein, carbs, fat and calories against your targets, live. Calories are always worked out from the macros, so the numbers cannot disagree with each other.
Pick one or two proteins for your main meals. With two, you tap which kind of day it is and lunch and dinner follow — chicken days and beef days.
Glasses sit inside the meal they belong to, with wake-up and before-bed standing on their own. Optional, and off if you would rather not.
When you change a portion or swap a food, Protn records it. A change you make repeatedly becomes a stored preference that later menus take into account. Every one of those is listed in Settings, with what it came from and a button to delete it — because a preference you cannot see or remove is just the app being wrong on your behalf.
Being straight about this one: the mechanism is built and running, but it is new and we have no results to point at yet. We are not going to tell you it works until it has.
Pricing
Not a limited version and not a sample — a full menu, built from your foods for your targets, free to everyone who has never built one. If it is not for you, you keep the plan and we never charge you.
Everything unlocks. You are not charged anything.
The app reminds you, with 3 days still left to cancel.
Your subscription starts, unless you cancelled before this.
Always free, subscription or not
If a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted and nothing is hidden. You can still cook from the menu you built.
Before you download
Worth knowing now rather than after you have paid. If these are what you want, Protn is the wrong app and we would rather you found that out here.
There is no way to record an arbitrary meal after the fact, no database to search and no barcode scanner. The menu is decided in advance; the app is a checklist against it.
You are not asked to account for everything that passes your lips. You are given a menu that already adds up, and the arithmetic stays behind the scenes.
No recipes, no method, no twelve-ingredient shopping list. Four plain foods per meal, and you already know how to cook all of them.
Protn gives general nutrition guidance. It is not a dietitian or a doctor. If you are managing a health condition, pregnant, or under 18, talk to a professional before changing how you eat.
No Android version yet, and no light mode in this version. Light mode is built but has never been checked properly on every screen, and shipping it half-looked-at would be worse than not shipping it. Both of those will change; neither has yet.
